About Us

The Cruisers of South Florida was formed to bring together those who love custom and specialty cars. We are an organization composed of a wide variety of different types of cars and we welcome members who just want to have fun and belong to a club run by its members. But in addition, it gives us the opportunity to give back to our local community in the form of donations to Charities. Each month, a charity is selected by the members and we collectively decide how, and to what extent, we can help. A monetary fund is set aside within the club treasury for the disbursement of money as voted by the members. Listed below is a list of the Charities we have helped....

Donations in 2017


January, a cash donation to the Ft Lauderdale Chapter of Honor Flight the organization that brings older U.S. military veterans free of charge, up to Washington, D.C. to take in all of the veteran's memorials in the Nation's Capital. This project began with the completion of the WWII memorial and the realization that many of our veterans who served in that war were getting up in age and deserved to see "their" memorial.

February, a cash donation to Y.A.T.C. (the Youth Automotive Training Center) to purchase a brick to be placed in the entry way path to their Deerfield Beach facility. This organization, founded by Jim Moran, is dedicated to assisting at risk young people in completing their GED (if applicable), and providing automotive training so that they can succeed in life with a career.

March, A cash donation was made to Tomorrow's Rainbow, a local organization dedicated to helping children deal with the grief of losing a parent or other loved one. Several of our members volunteer at this organization.

April, a cash donation was made to the Miramar United Methodist Church in Miramar, Fl. to support their local food pantry dedicated to serving the less fortunate members of their church and local community

May, A cash donation made to the South Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association to support their efforts in our community.

June, A cash donation made to the Compassionate Friends in Ft. Lauderdale, a grief support group that serves parents who have lost a child, in memory of one of our founding members, Robert (Bob) Rogers who recently passed away after a battle with cancer. Bob was also one of the original founders of this organization many years ago after he and his wife Dolly lost their son Tommy.

Donations in 2016


January, $100 Cash donation made to the Broward Humane Society Shelter

February, $100 Cash donation made in honor of all our Club Ladies for Valentine's Day made to the Ft. Lauderdale Chapter of the American Heart Association.

March a $200 cash donation to the Coastal Boxer Rescue organization. This local group provides rescue services primarily to the boxer dog breed, but will rescue any needy dog. They survive almost exclusively from the generosity of individual donations.

April,a $100 donation made to the South Florida Veteran's Multi-Purpose Center in Davie, Fl. This center provides a variety of services to our wounded service personnel including equestrian psychological and physical therapy.

May, donation to Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital Foundation from the proceeds of the Tavolino restaurant car show.

June, $100 cash donation to the Quinn Madeline Foundation, in memory of Quinn and in honor of our longstanding club members, grandparents, David and Ann Linzer.

July, In kind donation of 960 assorted school supply items and 100 backpacks to the Broward Women In Distress Center so that the many children that are in their care start school on equal footing with their peers.

August, Donation to Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital Foundation from the proceeds of our annual So Florida Tattoo Expo Car Show.

September, a cash donation of $100.00 to the Ft. Lauderdale Chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation to help provide a wish come true for a child with a serious illness.

October, a cash donation of $100.00 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month made to Susan G. Komen For The Cure South Florida Affiliate

November,a $100 cash donation made to the Miami Fisher House. This is an national organization that creates "Ronald McDonald House" type facilities in close proximity to VA hospitals throughout the country to provide for the families of our wounded service personnel being served by those VA hospitals.

December, a donation to the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation of the net proceeds of the Toys In The Sun Run Car Show. In addition, the members have donated approximately $800.00 of toys to be distributed to the most needy children serviced by The Early Learning/School Readiness group of the Broward County School Board.

Donations in 2015

January, $100 cash donation to the All Saints Catholic Mission Soup Kitchen (Father Bob"s), in Oakland Park, Fl.


February, $100 cash donation to the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of the American Heart Association in honor of all of our Cruisers Of South Florida Valentines

March, A donation of $100 cash to the Broward County Humane Society

April, A $100 cash donation made at the benefit car show for the Gagliano Family on Easter Sunday. Also, donation to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation from the proceeds of the Spring Tavolino Car Show.

May, An in kind donation to the Children's Harbor, Pembroke Pines, Fl. A safe harbor facility designed to keep siblings in the foster care program together as a family.

June, A $100 donation to WarFighter made, an organization started by the son of one of our members in California to provide mobile experiences to wounded service personal by either organizing ATV type excursions or by assisting the wounded with modified motorcycles, ATVs and other recreational type vehicles to provide some normalcy back into their lives.

July, An in kind donation of over $1000 worth of assorted school supplies and backpacks to The Broward Chapter of Women In Distress to assist the children of women serviced by the center by providing the kids with everything they need in supplies to begin school just like any other child.

August, A cash donation made to The Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital Foundation from the proceeds of our South Florida Tattoo Expo Car Show.

September, A $250.00 cash donation made to Bryan Biggs a local resident who suffered a devastating accident that caused the loss of his legs. Mr. Biggs was active in the community in youth sports and is now confined to a wheelchair and unable to runs his business.

October, $100 Cash donation in honor of breast cancer month to the Susan G. Koman Foundation, plus a donation to the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation, Hollywood, Fl from the proceeds of the Fall Tavolino's Car Show.

November, $200 Cash donation made to the local Florida chapter of the Wounded Warrior Project

December, New toy and clothing donations made by club members to the Early Childhood Learning Department of the Broward School District to provide for the neediest kids served by the group for Christmas. Our donations reached over 50 of the neediest children. Additional donation to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation from the proceeds of the annual Fun in the Sun Run car show

Donations in 2014

January: $100 cash donation made to assist the daughter of one of our members with serious health issues and mounting debt

February: cash donation of $100 made to the Ft. Lauderdale
chapter of the American Heart Association in honor of Valentines Day and all the distaff members of the Cruisers of South Florida

March: a cash donation of $100 made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in honor of our Club member and sponsor Bradley Krause who is suffering from Inclusion Body Myositis

April: a cash donation to The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital
Foundation from the proceeds of the First Annual Tavolinio's
Restaurant Open Car and Truck Show in Coral Spring, Fl.

May: a cash donation of $100 to the Pantry of Broward in Ft.
Lauderdale, Fl. This is a food bank that assists less fortunate senior citizens in our community

June, 2014 a $100 donation to the Quinn Madeline Foundation in memory of the grandaughter of our members Ann and David Linzer

July an in kind donation of over $1200 worth of various school supplies and backpacks made to the Broward County, Fl Women In Distress Center to help support the many children of women being cared for by the center so that they are able to start school on equal footing with all other kids.

August a cash donation of the proceeds of the 19th Annual So Florida Tattoo Expo Car and Truck Show to the Joe Dimaggio Children"s Hospital Foundation, Hollywood, Fl

September -donation $200 to Warrior Made Foundation a charitable organization that reworks various means of transportation (motorcycles, ATV, etc) so that they can be operated and used by wounded service personnel with disabilities. This group was started and is being continued by several retired military members including the son of one of our members, Randy Blanton and is a 503c charitable organization.

October - donation of $100 made to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month to Susan G. Komen For The Cure.

November, cash contribution of $100 to the Early Childhood Development Department of the Broward County School District to help fund their toy drive to provide for 40+ of the Districts neediest families for the Christmas Holidays. In addition the Club members have contributed a variety of additional clothing and toy items plus additional cash (used to go shopping to additional items) to assist the District in their efforts.

December, a donation to Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital from the proceeds of the Fun In The Sun Run (motorcycle run) Car and Bike Show at Markham Park.

Donations in 2013

January - our January 2013 charity donation was a total of $200 ($100 from the club and $100 from additional member donations) to the Ft. Lauderdale Chapter of The American Cancer Society in memory of the recently deceased family members of some of our club members

Feb: $100 cash donation to the American Heart Association

March: $100 cash donation to the Ft; Lauderdale Ronald McDonald House

April: $100 cash donation to the Broward County Human Society

May: $100 cash donation to the Fisher House in Miami Florida. The Fisher House is a facility similar in purpose to the Ronald Mcdonald House facilities that services wounded service personnel and their families.

June: $100 cash donation to the soup kitchen run by Father Bob at the All Saints Church in Pompano Beach, Fl

July: our annual collection and donation of school supplies to the children serviced by the Broward County Women In Distress Center. This year's donation had an approximate value of $1000.00

August: donation to Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital Foundation from the proceeds of the 18th Annual So Florida Tattoo Expo Car Show.

September: $100 cash donation to the American Cancer Society

October: $250 Cash donation in addition to a Club food drive to support the Annual HArverst Drive feeding the needy families at Oakridge Elementary School, a Title One School in east Hollywood, Fl. We were able to help provide assistance.to over 30 families for the Thanksgiving holiday.

November: $100 cash donation in support of the evening held for the benefit of Russ and Mimi Gagliano

December: Proceeds from the annual open car, truck and bike show held in conjunction with the 26th Annual Fun in the Sun Toy Run to the Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital Foundation.

Also in December: In-kind donation of Christmas presents for the needy children at Oakridge Elementary School in east Hollywood. Our donations contributed to the school's ability to provide presents to 30 families who would not have been able to provide any type of Christmas for their children. Of note should be the fact that the families served by this effort differed greatly from those chosen to receive assistance during Thanksgiving.

 

Donations in 2012

January, a cash donation of $100 to Children's SOS Villages of Florida in Coconut Creek, Fl. and organization dedicated to providing for neglected and abused foster children and giving them hope for the future.
February, a $100 cash donation to the American Heart Association in honor of all our club member valentines.
March, a $100 cash donation to "Stand Up For Sue" a benefit being held in Chicago to provided assistance to cover medical bills associated with pancreatic cancer treatment for the uninsured niece of our members, Theresa Berringer and John Maclean
April, A $100 cash donation to the Broward County Fl Police Memorial Association to support their efforts regarding a memorial for all fallen Broward police, fire and EMS personnel.
May, a cash donation (totaling $250) to aid the great niece (age 5 months) of the Rose family who's mother was slain by her estranged husband.
June, a cash donation ($100 made to the broward outreach center for the homeless
July, in kind donation of school supplies to the children assisted by the Broward Center of Women In Distress
August, donation to Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital Foundation from the proceeds of the Tattoo Expo Open Car and Truck Show
September, $100 cash donation to american cancer society to support dawn and kristin as they walk for the cure in ft lauderdale.
October, $100 cash donation to feeding south florida food bank (formerly the daily bread bank).
November A cash donation of $100 to All Saints Catholic Church (Father Bob's Soup Kitchen) in Pompano Beach to assist in feeding the poor in the community during the Holiday Season.

March The purchase of a brick (and a $100.00) donation to Noah's Ark For The Dog Park, Pompano Beach, Fl. to support the park that was built by the city of Pompano Beach and then left to be maintained by private support and donations. This facility is used by some of our members and we wish to insure it perseveres
April Donation to the Children's Home Society Ft. Lauderdale Chapter in the amount of $100.00
May Donation of $100 to the food bank at the House of God Church, West Park, Fl. They are a small local church striving to take care of the less fortunate within their congregation and their community.

Feb - $100 donation to Stand Up For Animals, Marathon, Fl, a not for profit, no kill, animal rescue, shelter and adoption organization with 2 south Florida locations in Marathon and Big Pine Key. They are part of a National organization of the same name
Mar a cash donation of $100 was made to the Crones and Colitis
Foundation in honor of Linda Salemi with our wishes for her speedy
recovery.
Apr a cash donation of $100 was made to "All Saints Catholic
Mission" for their soup kitchen and pantry. The mission is located at

June - Our June donation was to the Fisher House in Miami. It is a new project being constructed to provide housing for the families of veterans being treated at the VA for wounds and illnesses, many of which are associated with the current operations in the middle east, etc.
July- Our donation went to women in distress in Ft Lauderdale. Our donation amounted to approx $1000.00 (their valuation on their thank you letter) of assorted supplies and backpacks.
August - Joe Di Maggio Children's Hospital-donation was from the proceeds of our annual tattoo expo open car and truck show, nearly $1300
September -September charity donation was a $100 donation made to the Ft Lauderdale Ronald McDonald house.

Evie Schwartz, (Charities@CruisersOfSouthFlorida.com) maintains a record book which includes a list of the donations, literature about the charities and organizations as well as receipts and thank-you letters. This record book is always available for review at the monthly meetings. Members are encouraged to suggest organizations they would like to see supported.
